My African King

My African King
He is a stranger I saw from afar. A big powerful man who looked ready for war.
He came into my life and brought shining light. A light as brilliant as the stars above.
Who would have thought he would fill my heart with so much love?

He has dark chocolate skin, and eyes black as coal
Who would have thought he’d see deep into my soul?

He is a man pulled in many directions.
He is the man of my affections.

He is a man on a long journey trying to find his way.
The man I want by my side night and day.

He is a free spirit whose heights reach the moon.
He is a beautiful butterfly fresh from the cocoon.

He is the man God sent from Heaven’s gate.
The man who is my true soul mate.

He can be gentle as a lamb or strong as a bear.
Who would imagine the love that we’d share.
How can I show him that though we’re apart, I’ll always care?

Whether he is up or down, rich or poor, he will always be welcome at my door.

I want to be the Yin to his Yang.
I want to be his everything.
He is the man I call, “My African King.”

***(Dedicated to all of the African-American Kings past, present, and future)***
